This exhibition was a part of ‘Materiology’, and initiative by Stir Gallery, Delhi. The brief was to create an exhibit centered around the idea of simple and productive things we did as kids, that were educational, thoughful, made us learn, made us treat these as activities for a better living. Materiology 2.0, a forecast on what’s next in design, was a fun interplay of narratives that tie in yesterday’s memories, today’s actuality and tomorrow’s dreams.
We created transparent water bags to hold water, a common activity from our childhood. These were hung from the ceiling, as ‘silent sentinels screaming for attention’. Limbs extend outwards from the clear bags, in the shape of hands, literally ‘holding water’. Water’s possible absence in the near future, creates an urgent need for design can respond to this scarcity. What followed from the design of this installation was an exercise to create spaces that hold water. This continues in part 2 of this series.
